^ 2018 Spring Tasks

Works of 2018 to get living spaces and garden spaces up and usable. Bigger tasks include,

  • [ ] walking ramp south side
  • [ ] walking ramp and leveled picnic table area north side
  • [ ] lawn replanting and sod disposition
  • [ ] steps to and middle terrace above junipers
  • [ ] leaf and soil removal from east side of top fence


Some smaller but important tasks include:

  • [ ] poison oak removal southeast corner

  • [ ] gate creation in fence southeast corner
  • [ ] mulched trail from middle terrace to southeast corner
  • [ ] paver stone edging along front porch bed

  • [ ] paver stone edging along large front garden bed

  • [ ] raspberry patch clean up
  • [✔] wild flower thinning by driveway

^ 2018 Autumn Tasks

North side:

  • [ ] group together frost tender plants in 18 by 30 inch bins
  • [ ] group together hardy succulents to be wintered outside under rain covers
  • [ ] move potted perennials able to stay outdoors to middle terrace
    • [ ] complete small back-filling task at north end of middle terrace
  • [ ] complete weeding, venca and debris removal from north slope

South side low:

  • [ ] move firepit blocks to north slope
  • [ ] clear and mulch fire pit area with wood chips
  • [ ] south walking ramp project steps (1):
    • [ ] continue retainer blocks along lowest topology line to ramp base
    • [ ] locate and clear concrete and other debris from garage foundation corner
    • [ ] lay gravel and set first retainer blocks at garage foundation corner
    • [ ] mulch lower part of ramp with wood chips
    • [ ] set next three retaining block rows and determine row count at garage corner
  • [ ] remove tarped camelia clippings at first cherry tree and south fence
  • [ ] mulch with wood chips between lowest elevation cherry trees
  • [ ] mark locations for first five walking steps at second cherry tree from garage along south fence

South side high:

  • [ ] lay retainer blocks at top corner iris leaf composting spot
  • [ ] mark trench line for water run-off from higher property east of backyard hillside
  • [ ] set two- to three-block high temporary wall just below unwashed pots
    • [ ] level below wall and plant sword ferns
    • [ ] level above wall and lay fine gravel


Front yard:

  • [✔] trim up and mulch scarlet runner beans at foot of chimney
  • [✔] trim yellow and white oriental lily stalks, weed and clean up there
  • [ ] remove last bit old sod and level and replant grass seed at southeast downspout French drain
  • [✔] trim over-weighted branches of piernis shrub next to deck

Grey water feature:

  • [ ] dig and bundle raspberries next to split rail fence
  • [ ] weed and level soil in this bed
  • [ ] lay gravel and stones for waste water basin
  • [ ] mulch with wood chips around gravel basin
  • [ ] lay larger square walking stones two or three for access to slope along rail fence
  • [ ] consider space for day lilies or agapanthus between gravel basin and strawberries in row

Notes:
(1) carry over project from 2018 spring.

Key plants and seedlings to get into the ground:

  • [ ] all bearded iris, save pure aril iris
  • [ ] hardy cyclamen seedlings
  • [ ] unidentified aster type ground cover, late winter 2017 FM purchase four-inch potted
  • [ ] oriental lily seedlings from lilies 2015 of Bryan Parks, Veris community garden
  • [ ] oriental lily "Nettie's Pride"
