^ 2019 Spring tasks
2019 official first day of spring is March 20. Spring time goals for yard safety and cleanliness include south side and north side work. A third weather sensitive goal set involves moving some perennial plants while the weather is yet cool enough to do so.
Front yard:
- [✔] raspberry patch clean up
- [✔] wild flower thinning by driveway
^ south side cleaning and mulching
First spring time goal is to clear the area between firepit and cherry trees south side of back yard, and mulch here with wood chips. At this time we do a "rirst pass" leveling which means smoothing out a few places of the ground between cherries and concrete wall, but not a complete leveling. That work requires a much greater removal of excess soil.
The need met by reaching this goal is a safe space, at least up to its edges namely where the south walking ramp is under construction. Also combined goal with safety is to clear and open the space so there is a visual impact and reference to much of the area we want to level further in a "second pass" with machinery. That's a much larger removal of soil. The clear and safe space after completing first pass work will also allow for safer access to ladder work and pruning in the cherry trees.
As a step and aid to clearing this space we'll select as many potted plants to give away as appear in good enough condition to do so. Two plants which will stay in the area for the spring time are: bergenia from the first house (growing in the ground now) and the original long step yellow rose also from the first house.
- [ ] "first pass" leveling and mulching of firepit and cherry trees area
- [ ] creation of place for gathering madronas and other potted trees in one or two places, wood chips mounding for temperature moderation
^ north side lavendulas
A second goal of late winter / early spring time is to clean up along north fence area, planting four or five French lavendar at the foot of the fence and completing the mulching there. Also to consider whether to plant a palm tree at one point where presently the downspouts from the backyard roof drain near the property line . . .
