To edit Mediawiki sidebar, in the main page's URL replace 'Media_wiki' with 'Mediawiki:sidebar'. Note that to do this and enjoy edit permissions to the sidebar, given user must have Mediawiki privileges to edit this global part of the given wiki installation.
